ADL has a full-time workforce of over 20 members of staff, split in to four teams of technical staff, each headed by a Director or Associate Director and backed up by administrative and support staff.

Allan Mendelsohn

Founder & Managing Director

Allan is now Managing Director, overseeing and planning for the growth of the four teams of Transport Planning, Traffic Engineering and Highway Design which operate within the company. He specialises in a wide range of transport planning and engineering work covering almost all development proposals. His comprehensive experience enables him to determine and address the changes in transportation activity associated with development and redevelopment proposals. He seeks to obtain the removal of highway issues and objections via Transport Assessments, negotiations and, where necessary, by acting as an Expert Witness at planning appeals where he has a very successful record.

Allan has over 30 years Transport Planning experience. He graduated from Thames Polytechnic in 1983 with a BSc Hons in Estate Management and from Leeds University in 1984 with an MSc In Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering. During his early career he gained experience in a Local Authority Highways Department as well as large multi-disciplinary consultancies, including Ove Arup, before progressing into smaller specialised consultancy. In 1996 he and Lorna Randall-Jones established ADL Traffic and Highways Engineering Ltd.

Lorna is a founder member and Director of ADL Traffic and Highways Engineering Ltd responsible for the management of Highway, Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning projects.  Lorna has been involved in a wide range of projects involving retail, residential, industrial, warehousing, office, restaurants and leisure developments situated in a wide variety of locations, as well as dealing with out-of-town developments and town centre redevelopments.

Lorna’s qualifications include a Masters Degree in Traffic Engineering and Transportation, Southampton University 2001, a Diploma in Transport Planning and Engineering, University of Middlesex 1994 (with Distinction) and a Higher Diploma in Geographical Techniques, Luton University. She is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Highways and Transport and Chartered Member of Institute of Logistics and Transport.

She has also prepared and submitted traffic studies, negotiated with Highway Authorities and presented evidence as an Expert Witness at Public Inquiry and in Local Plan Inquiry.

Major clients include; Chelverton Properties, Kier Property Developments Ltd, Life Properties Ltd, Principal Hayley Hotels, First City Ltd, J R Smart Ltd.

Tony Chapman

Tony Chapman

Director

Tony is responsible for the management of Highway and Civil Engineering projects within the company. His specialisations include both highways and drainage infrastructure. He has been involved in a wide range of highway engineering projects encompassing the survey, detailed design and preparation of contract documents for major highway projects and the detailed design of large sewerage and sewage treatment schemes and infrastructure design for residential, educational, restaurant and office developments.

In 1974 Tony gained a BSc in Civil Engineering from Kingston Polytechnic and is a member of the Institute of Civil Engineers, the Institute of Highways and Transportation and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management.

Catherine Chapman

Catherine is a Director at ADL with considerable experience in managing transportation projects, producing technical reports and developing strong working relationships with her clients. Catherine spent several years at ADL’s London office liaising with various London Borough Highway Authorities and Transport for London to secure planning consents for a mix of residential and commercial developments, she now manages projects nationwide. Catherine specialises in providing Transport Assessments, Parking Assessments, Feasibility Studies and Proofs of Evidence. Catherine can also lead negotiations to resolve transportation issues and agree S106 contributions.

Catherine has over 10 years Transport Planning experience, she graduated from Sheffield University in 2003 with a BSc Hons in Geography and in 2010 from the University of West of England with an MSc In Transport Planning.

Amol Pisal

Director & Team Leader

Amol has been working in transport planning industry for over 13 years and has gained valuable experience from private sector projects in the UK and Isle of Man across residential, retail, commercial, student accommodation, leisure, healthcare and education sectors. He has bespoke skills in traffic forecasting, modelling and traffic impact assessment and has produced numerous Transport Assessments/ Statements, Travel Plans, Construction Logistics Plan, Delivery & Servicing Plans, Environmental Statement chapters and feasibility studies. Amol is proficient in standalone junction modelling, and has specialist skills in junction capacity assessment using software such as LinSig, ARCADY and PICADY and has awareness of large strategic area modelling software.

Amol joined ADL in 2010 and is now a Director where he is responsible for client liaison, supporting projects from their inception stage through to the submission of planning and post submission negotiation including stakeholder negotiations and Section 106 negotiations and support at Public Inquiry.

Tom Hayward

Associate Director & Team Leader

Tom has a wide range of experience within Highways and Traffic engineering. The early part of his career was at Somerset County Council as a traffic technician and progressing to Traffic Engineer design and management of different forms of Traffic schemes. Tom then project managed the Bath City Centre Pedestrianisation scheme for Bath & North East Somerset Council in their Highways & Transport Team. He was promoted to Capital Programme Manager. In this role he formed part of the senior management team and was responsible for the delivery of the Councils Capital Highways Programme, management of the Communications, administration and Contract teams within the Service. Immediately prior to joining ADL Tom spent time working in-house with Cavanna Homes as a Land Manager responsible for reviewing planning application submissions.

Tom has much experience in writing reports, managing multi million pound budgets, staff management, delivering large programmes of Highways and Traffic work as well as specialist knowledge of promoting and implementing Traffic Regulation Orders.

He has a HNC in Civil Engineering and is a member of the Institute of Highways Engineers.

Andy

Andy Miles

Principal Engineer

Andy is able to provide a diverse range of services to the client, working from initial design and feasibility layout stage, through to the transport planning matters, providing Transport reports for planning submissions, and subsequently addressing any Highway issues which may arise as a result of the Planning Consultation process. Andy is proficient and keen, in ensuring the Client achieves the desired result. His most recent experience has been working on behalf of the convenience retail sector providing consultancy services for  mixed retail/convenience store schemes, and has previous significant experience working to achieve planning approvals of standalone / drive-thru restaurants.

Andy started working at ADL Traffic & Highways Engineering working primarily as a CAD Technician after leaving school in 2005, whilst attending college and University of the West of England in order to obtain a HNC in Civil Engineering. His willingness to learn, and develop within this chosen field has resulted in Andy gaining a diverse range of skills, and consequently progressing within the company. He most recently completed a Traffic Engineering Certificate at University of the West of England, and plans to complete his MSc in Transport Planning and Engineering in due course.

Paul Lacey

Senior Designer

Paul specialises in providing comprehensive design related services which also includes vehicle swept path analyses to the Client. His thorough experience is within Highway related design advice, liaising with Clients and Architect’s to ensure that development proposals are in accordance with the relevant and most recent design standards. He has a very keen eye and attention to detail, is very likeable and builds positive relationships with his Clients whom will pay testament to the professionalism of Paul’s work, and drawings.

Paul benefits from a vast array of knowledge and experience having worked at ADL Traffic and Highways Engineering Ltd for over 20 years, after joining the company in 1997. Paul enjoys preparing clear and concise drawings to the benefit of the clients and has therefore progressed within the company to be the Senior Technician.

Georgios Kalogerakis

Georgios Kalogerakis

Principal Engineer

Georgios is a Principal Engineer in our highways team with a MSc degree in Civil Engineering and postgraduate studies in Construction and Project Management. He brings a strong technical background and the ability to manage projects and people. Having a wide range of experience on Civil and Highway Engineering including extensive knowledge in drainage designs and flood risk & consequence assessments, along with Project Management makes him a valuable asset to the team. He has worked on S278 and S38 highway projects, on car park designs and on several railway projects. He specialises in the development of Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies for sites located at all the Flood Zones.

Georgios joined ADL in 2021, having previously worked as an employee for large consultancies across the UK.

Will S

Will Sandercock

Senior Engineer

Will is a Senior Engineer in the highways team having joined in late 2020. He brings experience through working in the industry for 7 years & as a Civil Engineer for 5 years. He has worked on a multitude of projects in a vast array of sectors. Will is experienced in liaising with clients, consulting with local authorities, coordinating with design teams, and assisting with site contractors.

Will brings a knowledge of drainage engineering to the team. Areas of expertise include; obtaining approvals for planning utilising Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), liaising with water authorities to obtain S104/106/185 agreements, producing detailed design for foul water and surface water designs, and Will has also added a recent skillset in producing Flood Risk Assessments. Will possesses experience in the processes involved in highway works such as production of designs & liaising with the local authority to enable S278/38 agreements to be discharged. Will possesses high level of technical abilities in the design process and has gained vast knowledge throughout the years.

Engineer

Mike has been with the company since 2013 starting as a trainee CAD technician. He is now part of the team that deals with Highway and Civil Engineering projects within the company, including detailed design, Traffic Management plans, S278 / other Highway agreements and liaising with clients and the council. Mike is a perfectionist, and has a keen eye for detail, ensuring the client always achieves the desired professional result.

Will W

Will Wilson

Traffic Engineer

Will joined the company in 2018 having completed a BSc in Geography, an MSc in Environmental Consultancy and experience in the Environmental Consultancy sector. He was initially trained in Transport Planning and all associated works, before transitioning to undertaking works for numerous Local Authorities as a Traffic Engineer – a key area in which the business has been rapidly growing and developing over the last 2 years.

As well as being proficient in assisting with the full Transport Planning process, Will is also proficient in undertaking the full Traffic Regulation Order process and assists in the delivery of Traffic Management Schemes for numerous Local Authorities in England and Wales developing a reputation for excellent client correspondence and project management skills as well as being active in working towards business development and expansion. Will also assists with the management of the companies social media profiles. He is fully trained on AutoCAD and Junctions 9 modelling software.
